ALBANY, N.Y. — Bikers are five for five in the annual Commuter Challenge. The race from downtown Albany up Western Avenue is a precursor to Friday’s National Bike to Work Day.
Commuters put the pedal to the metal against a car and a bus. The fastest biker finished the five miles in a little less than 16 minutes. It took the gas-saving Smart Car 21 minutes and the CDTA bus made its stops and finished the route in 44 minutes.

Last Friday, Crimanimal Mass took their second bicycle ride on the freeway during drive-home rush hour. Whizzing by gridlocked cars, the demonstration, albeit illegal, raises questions. Good questions. One of the group’s organizers, Morgan Strauss, 29, was quoted in the Santa Monica Daily Press (.pdf) this weekend saying that he “just wanted to raise questions about the transportation infrastructure. In a city ruled by cars, why is it that you can get places faster on bikes?â€
I would just like to say thanks to everyone who had any part of last nights festivities. The art show was awesome, the ride was fun (other than my 6th flat in 24 hours) and overall it was such a positive atmosphere. Definitely something I wish would happen more often.
I’d just like to to tell everyone who may be visiting this website today because of the event yesterday that it would be great if you could poke around the website and register for the forums. It’s a great way to get in contact with other area cyclists. So have a blast.
Also I changed up the theme of the website a little, so leave me feedback.
IÂ just upgraded the site to the new wordpress, and the backend is amazing so far.
However not so amazing is that I overwrote all the old config files with no backup, so theres a load of little annoying things that bother me, and instead of just re fixing them, I’m going to give the site a new theme soon.

Before the skinny jeans, the mag wheels, the tricks videos and the track bike boutique, there was Sheldon Brown. He was this name that would always pop up in conversation when people were trying to figure out what gear ratio to ride their fixie or what that even meant. Sheldon was the parts manager and tech guru at Harris Cyclery in West Newton, Massachussets.
