NYCROSS Cyclocross Clinic

Posted by Andrew on Monday, September 15, 2008 · Leave a Comment

The NYCROSS Cross Clinic was yesterday. Alec Donahue from Joe’s Garage was the instructor. An amazing cross rider who it is actually easy to identify with. It was not intimidating at all to talk to him or ask questions. At one point he noticed I had my remount in two motions rather than one, and gave me tips on how to do this more fluidly (is that even a word?), and it didn’t make me feel like I was ‘wrong’ with the way I was doing it, just that he was helping me do it better. Really great guy.

We went over the basics from getting on, off, runups, to the more advanced tools such as shouldering techniques, getting through barriers, cornering tactics as well as bike handling. Alec was super knowledgeable about seriously everything and gave amazingly detailed answers about everything anyone had a question about.

I was debating getting a book on cross to help me out since I’m super new to this whole thing, but for cheaper than any of the books I was looking at I feel like I got a much better value out of this clinic. Hands on demonstrations as well as advice is way nicer than words on a page.
